Cabbage Red Acre
This heirloom cabbage produces compact round heads with deep wine-red colored leaves. Heads averaging 6 inches in diameter and weighing 3 pounds.
Red Acre cabbage is compact enough for small gardens or even containers. Stores better than any other early cabbage we've tried. Even in the garden the heads hold well for a long period before splitting.
Planting time - for early spring crop - sow indoors 5-7 weeks before last expected frost and transplant outside 3 weeks before last spring frost. Protect spring plantings with row covers to discourage cabbage loopers. You can also use Thuricide - Bacillus thuringiensis as an organic solution for controlling them. For fall crop, sow directly in garden in 3 months before first expected frost.
